Back to top | READYVILLE MILL OPEN FOR BUSINESS | Charles Ready built a water powered grist mill on the Stones River in 1812. After many years of neglect Tomm Brady purchased the property in 2006. He has restored it to a working mill again. Each Saturday between 8 and 1:00 pm it is open for visitors. Tomm has sourced local yellow and white organically grown corn and soft red winter organic wheat. These grains are freshly ground that day. Also available are local jams and honey.

Back to top | FIVE SIMPLE TIPS FOR HEALTHIER, HAPPIER KIDS With the start of a new school year, a lot of parents worry that the good habits they worked so hard to keep up over the summer will go right out the window. But making sure your kids stay healthy even when you can't be with them is easy. Just start with these five simple tips!
Bring Back Breakfast A wholesome breakfast gives kids the fuel they need to start their day and stay energized, and studies show that children who eat breakfast perform better in school and are less likely to have behvioral problems. Avoid sugary cereals and processed snacks, and opt for high-fiber foods such as whole grains, fresh fruit and steel-cut oats, as well as lean protein.
Good Hygiene Goes a long Way It never fails--their first week back and already they have the sniffles. Don't panic! Just be sure to talk to your kids about the importance of good hygiene. Little things like washing their hands, covering their mouths when they cough or sneeze (or better yet, coughing or sneezing into their elbow), and not sharing drinks or snacks can go a long way toward fending off germs. Taking a daily probiotic will also help boost their natural defenses and strengthen immune function.
Pack Their Lunches We've been hearing a lot lately about nutrition in schools, and research shows that the high-fat, high-sugar meals common in school cafeterias may be contributing to the growing rate of obesity in America. It may take a little extra time the night before, but brown-bagging it is a much healthier option. Stick with a high-fiber diet that includes plenty of fruits, veggies, whole grains and nuts, and choose lean protein sources such as fish and chicken.
Get a Good Night's Sleep Research shows that children who don't get enough sleep are more likely to have difficulty concentrating in the class room, and lack of sleep can also contribute to mood swings, irritability and behavioral problems. Most experts agree that school-age kids should get at least 9 to 12 hours of sleep every night.
Essential Supplements A healthy body begins with good digestion, so it's important that kids get the nurients they need to digest their food properly and eliminate waste effectively and efficiently. Daily supplementation with fiber, probiotics and digestive enzymes can help kids get the nutritional support they need for better digestion and overall health.
